The ERNACT network is delighted to announce the appointment of ERNACT’s new Interregional Management Committee (IMC) Chairperson, our core member Prof. Dr Andrej Kos, Head of Laboratory for Telecommunications at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty od Electrical Engineering (Slovenia).
Prof. Dr Andrej Kos brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our network, and we are thrilled to welcome him to lead our board of IMC members. With a proven track record in the field of ICT since 1996, currently, he is focused on cyber-physical systems, digitalization and security. To-date, he has led more than 50 industrial and research projects, and he was one of the team members that set up the Ljubljana University Incubator, Makerlab Ljubljana and lately, Digital Innovation Hub. He also leads the Commission for Innovations at the University of Ljubljana.
In a statement, ERNACT General Manager Dr Caitriona Strain said, “we are excited to welcome Andrej Kos as our new IMC Chairperson. His long-track experience in the ERNACT network will undoubtedly strengthen our organisation's strategic direction.” Prof. Dr Andrej Kos officially assumed his new role as Chairperson during the last ERNACT IMC meeting held in Nevers (France), on the 25th and 26th of October. “I am honoured to be the new ERNACT Chairperson, and I look forward to work with the dedicated core members and ERNACT staff to continue driving a positive change towards the digital transformation of the cities and regions in our network”, he said.
More about Prof. Dr Andrej Kos
Prof. Dr Andrej Kos received his diploma, master's degree and doctorate in 1996, 1999 and 2003 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. He is currently a full professor at this faculty and head of the Laboratory for Telecommunications. His research areas include distributed cyber-physical systems, digitalization and security. Technology areas include the Internet of Things, communication protocols, 5G and 6G networks, cyber security, blockchain and data. The vertical sectors supported by these technology areas in his work are smart cities, villages and communities, industry, critical infrastructure and public safety. Research areas are in line with Digital Europe 2021-2027, EU Cybersecurity Act, European Union Agency for Cybersecurity Programming Document 2019-2021.
He has also published more than 45 scientific articles with SCI impact factor and more than 50 articles in other scientific journals. Prof. Dr Andrej Kos is the author of 8 chapters in international books, 5 of which were published by an international publishing house. In addition, he is also the author and co-author of more than 180 conference articles and 8 lectures at foreign universities. Furthermore, he is a mentor in 9 doctoral dissertations, 26 scientific master's theses and more than 215 BSc and MSc theses, of which 11 for international students. Last but not least, Prof. Dr Andrej Kos is an associate editor of the scientific journal Elektrotehniški Vestnik and an associate editor of the international scientific conference Cobcom and the VITEL conference, and a member of the program committee of several international conferences.
In 2020, he received the Gold Plaque of the University of Ljubljana for outstanding merits in the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic creation and for strengthening the reputation of the University of Ljubljana.
