In fantastic news for the Northwest, Atlantic Technological University Donegal (ATU) has officially been named Ireland’s second provider of Veterinary Medicine education. Announced by Ministers Patrick O'Donovan and Charlie McConalogue, this milestone is a significant step in addressing the increasing demand for veterinary professionals.
The new Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) program at ATU will bring world-class education right to the heart of the Northwest. This development not only opens up exciting opportunities for local students but also strengthens the future of veterinary care in the region.
The clinical portion of the veterinary course will be provided in Letterkenny, while the practical side will be delivered in collaboration with Mountbellew Agricultural College in Galway. There will be 40 places available on the course each year for five years, so when the programme is fully developed, 200 students will be taking part.
This program will offer valuable educational opportunities, bolster local veterinary practices, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating pathways for future professionals in Donegal.
