Inishowen Innovation features on Euronews 'Smart Regions' Series

Euronews recently visited Donegal for a special feature showcasing the impact of ERNACT’s involvement in the Interreg Europe ERUDITE project.

José Manuel San Emeterio from ERNACT spoke with Euronews about the project's key role in establishing the ii in Buncrana, a significant step in advancing the area as a #SmartRegion.

In collaboration with the Donegal Digital Working Group, this initiative has led to the development of the Inishowen Innovation Hub and with the support of Donegal County Council and Enterprise Ireland, the ii is driving digital innovation in Northwest Donegal.

The European project ERUDITE (Enhancing Rural and Urban Digital Innovation Territories) for which a total of around 2.08 million euro was invested, 1.74 million of which came from the European Cohesion Policy through the Interreg programme, involving seven different regions. Besides Ireland, Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, Slovenia, and Hungary benefited.

The initiative reflects a broader EU strategy to promote regional development through innovation, digitalisation, and sustainability, aiming to create local employment opportunities and reduce rural depopulation.
