Digital Beach Summit - CIVITEC Panel
Mayor of Preveza, Nikos Georgakos opened CIVITEC'S 7th Interregional meeting at Preveza City Hall and welcomed the partnership to the city.
One of the first sessions featured a live demonstration of Novoville, a platform that allows residents to report local issues directly to their municipality. The session followed the process from the initial citizen report through to the response from the local authority, showing how digital tools can make it easier for residents and councils to communicate.
Digital services and citizen participation
At the Preveza Municipal Gallery “Yannis Moralis”, partners took part in a thematic policy-learning workshop exploring digital services, smart governance and artificial intelligence. Presentations covered Preveza’s digital development, the Digital Beach Summit, CTI “Diophantus’” YourView citizen-feedback platform, the work of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Greece and the University of Ioannina’s Metacity initiative.
The programme also included two Living Lab visits. Partners learned about the role of local volunteers in emergency preparedness and community resilience, then at the Archaeological Museum of Nicopolis, they explored how cultural heritage can be made more accessible to citizens and visitors.
Sharing CIVITEC’s experience at the Digital Beach Summit
The visit coincided with the 3rd Annual Digital Beach Summit, held under the theme “AI and SGC in the Digital & Green Era”. CIVITEC partners joined the wider summit programme, which brought together public authorities, researchers and technology specialists to discuss the move towards a more digital and sustainable future.
During a panel on European best practices, CIVITEC representatives discussed how Interreg Europe helps regions learn from one another and adapt successful approaches to their own policy needs.
The panel included Dr Eleftherios Loizou, Managing Director of the Nicosia Development Agency – ANEL and CIVITEC Lead Partner Coordinator; Clive Peckham, European Projects Manager at Nièvre Numérique; Jose Manuel San Emeterio, Programme Manager at ERNACT; and Professor Chrysostomos Stylios, Director of the Industrial Systems Institute at Athena Research Centre. The discussion was moderated by Ioanna Papaioannou, an agronomist specialising in the delivery of EU projects with local impact.
Following the panel, Mayor Nikos Georgakos presented a commemorative plaque to the CIVITEC partnership to mark its participation in the summit.
The meeting gave partners several practical examples to take back to their regions, from citizen-reporting platforms and digital public services to community-led emergency response and youth participation.
These experiences will contribute to the project’s continuing work to improve regional policies and encourage the use of civic technology across Europe.
