ERNACT IMC members in Slovenia.

The ERNACT network of cities and regions has met in Svečina (Slovenia), on the 26th November, for the International Management Committee meeting, organised by the University of Ljubljana's, Laboratory for Telecommunications. The IMC meeting has been held in conjunction with the Interreg Europe funded CARPE DIGEM project meeting, in which ERNACT participates.

"The ERNACT partners have been very successful over the past number of years in assembling a portfolio of European projects that enables member regions to jointly address the challenges and opportunities of integrating digital transformation technologies into key sectors and smart specialisation priorities", highlights ERNACT General Manager Colm Mc Colgan.

After the last IMC meeting in June, in Brussels, the network has come together again to discuss the progress of the 10 transnational and interregional projects that it's currently implementing in over 50 regions, piloting technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT), among others. It has been a very fruitful meeting in which core members have developed an approach for optimising cooperation in European projects. "The ERNACT network of regions has already identified 20 digital transformation topics which it can develop into new projects for the new EU programming period 2021 – 2027", adds Colm Mc Colgan.

"In addition of exploring short term project opportunities for the next programming period, we have identified cross-regional combinations of smart specialisation and digital transformation priorities that will form the basis for future ERNACT led EU projects", continues Jose Manuel San Emeterio, Project Manager at ERNACT.

Digital Innovation Ecosystems workshop

During the afternoon, IMC members and the CARPE DIGEM partnership shared a joint session in which they exchanged visions on the role of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH).

CARPE DIGEM aims to explore the creation of living Digital Innovation Ecosystems in Europe's regions. In that way, following ERNACT's strategic methodology, project partners from Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, Sweden and Bulgaria got the opportunity to identify regional digital transformation needs. Among others, they mentioned culture, tourism, education, health, agrofood, public administration and construction sectors.
